The Brazil Institute invites you to Brazil Week 2017.

The Brazil Institute will be hosting an evening of film, readings, art, music, and culture in celebration of Minas Gerais.  

17.00-17.45: Brasilianas - short films about Mineiro rural life and folklore by documentary-maker Humberto Mauro:  Work Songs, Morning in the Fields, São João del-Rei, The Ox-Cart

17.45-18.15: stories by João Guimarães Rosa - readings by David Treece and Laura Arantes

18.15-19.00: “Whose traditions?  The religious and the profane in the Folia de Reis and Chula of São João da Chapada, Minas Gerais” - illustrated lecture by Frances Goodingham, doctoral researcher, King’s College London

19.00-19.30: Nossa Voz vocal group performs songs from Minas Gerais

19.30-21.30: Art of the Brazilian Viola - lecture and performance by João Araújo, Director of "Viola Urbana Produções”

Refreshments will be served.
