Stop US Military Aid to the Junta

1973

This pamphlet cover was produced as part of the Union of Radical Latin Americanists (URLA) newsletter just a month after the Chilean military coup of 1973. The group, based in Austin, Texas, formed in the early 1970s and would go on to play an important role in the radicalisation of LASA - the well known Latin American Studies Association. This early issue would have been edited by Joel Edelstein, at the University of Wisconsin, who has been described by his colleague Ronald Chilcote as “a major force behind the formation of Union of Radical Latin Americanists”. Back then, the magazine dealt with topics such as imperialism, political repression, political prisoners, and Latin American Studies more broadly.
